After graduating from Aoyama Normal School, he taught at elementary and junior high schools until retirement. He studied calligraphy under Sokyu Ueda and in 1952 co-founded the Bokujinkai. Known for his vibrant style, he gained international recognition and held many exhibitions in Japan and abroad, including the 1954 Japanese Calligraphy Exhibition at MoMA in New York.
