SEAL-DO Washi Tape - Shinzi Katoh - Be Not Defeated by the Rain - 27mm
Shinzi Katoh is a picture book author, illustrator, and designer for everyday lifestyle items such as shoes, clothes, jewelry, and stationery. Here, Katoh has taken the works of novelist and children's poetry writer Kenji Miyazawa and spun them into the fantastical scenes that you see unravelling on this beautiful washi tape. This washi tape is designed after Miyazawa's most famous poem "Ame ni mo Makezu" which was not originally intended to be published. He wrote while sick, and its message of self-encouragement is taught in Japanese schools still to this day. The first lines translated into English read "Unbeaten by the rain / Unbeaten by the wind / Bested by neither snow nor summer heat / Strong of body / Free of desire / Never angry / Always smiling quietly" are depicted by the sweet black cat character Katoh has illustrated on this tape.
