Taccia Empress Fountain Pen - Beauty Looking Back - Limited Edition

The fountain pens in Taccia's Empress Collection pair Taccia's oversized Empress body with a Sailor King of Pen (KOP) 18k gold nib. These pens feature Togidashi Maki-e (burnished maki-e) and expert application of urushi lacquer to create stunning and unique works of art.

Beauty Looking Back is a ink and color painting on silk created in 1690 by Hishikawa Moronobu. Hishikawa was one of the first great masters of ukiyo-e, a style of Japaense print and painting eveloped during the Tokugawa period. The painting is an example of a genre which portrayed beautiful women from the Kanbun era. The woman is shown glancing over her shoulder as she moves forward. Hishikawa effectively displayed the fashion of those days as well as the hairstyle. 

The Empress Ukiyo-e Beauty Looking Back fountain pen pays homage to one of the first great masters of ukiyo-e, Hishikawa Moronobu, and it captures the beauty and vibrance present in his artwork. The cap includes imagery of a beach ball and pin wheel.

Each fountain pen is made by hand in Taccia's urushi studio on Wajima, Japan, using traditional inlay techniques enhanced with precious metals and lacquer. To blend the old with the new, each fountain pen comes fitted with an 18k gold nib made by Sailor in Japan along with an individually polished, lightweight yet durable ebonite barrel. The cushion screw cap closure allows for an airtight seal that prevents the pen from drying out. Each series is limited and signed by the maki-e artisan who created it, truly emphasizing the tradition of craftsmanship.
