Shimmering inks have physical particles of glitter mixed into the liquid ink, resulting in glimmering writing on the page. Since the glimmer is resulting from glitter particles, how visible it is depends on how much glitter is coming out of the pen at a time. Broader nibs are recommended for the best results and to prevent clogging.
